What can i do to maximise SOA preparation efficiency?

Some of the common problems are as follows:

1. Generic Goals and Objectives Client objectives should be specific in terms of amounts and timeframes where possible (refer attached suggestions). Details required for retirement analysis are also regularly omitted e.g retirement age, income required pa, lump sum expenditure etc

2. No/inadequate reasoning behind product redemption/recommendation Reasonable basis should be established through diary notes e.g fee comparison. Redemption costs must also be provided e.g exit fees, CGT.

3. Recommended products don't match clients target asset allocation Variances outside of 10% target asset allocation must be justified.

4. ETP components not provided Compulsory when recommending redundancy, recontribution and/or retirement income stream strategies. Previous ETP withdrawal details are also required.

5. Expenditure Clients regularly only provide a lump sum expenditure figure. The planner needs to detail whether this figure includes or excludes loan repayments, insurance premiums etc which are located throughout the fact find.

6. Investments Regularly omitted information includes investment owner, interest rate for cash/fixed interest, number of shares/units held

7. Liabilities Regularly omitted information includes interest rate, repayment amount loan term etc.

8. Gearing Planner must complete analysis to prove that Licensee standards are met e.g interest rate increases, LVR etc. Details of proposed loan facility and investment owner are regularly omitted.
